Atlas praised Sheeraz after the new WBO champion scored another quick knockout in Egypt on Saturday night

Teddy Atlas believes Hamzah Sheeraz has the potential to become one of boxing’s biggest stars after the unbeaten British fighter captured the WBO super middleweight title with a quick knockout in Egypt. Atlas praised Sheeraz’s performance while also criticizing the level of opposition in the title fight against Alem Begic.

Atlas posted the reaction on social media after watching Hamzah Sheeraz stop Begic inside two rounds to win his first world title.

The victory pushed Sheeraz to 23 wins in 24 fights with 19 knockouts. His only blemish remains a draw against Carlos Adames in their WBC middleweight title fight in February 2025.

Since moving to 168 pounds, Sheeraz has looked stronger physically and more dangerous offensively. His name is already being linked to future fights against some of the biggest names in the division.

One of those possibilities is Canelo Alvarez, who has mentioned Sheeraz as one of the potential opponents he could face if he stays at super middleweight following his September 12 fight against Christian Mbilli in Riyadh.

Atlas was critical of the title matchup itself, but he made it clear he believes Sheeraz has the charisma, style, and talent to develop into one of boxing’s biggest attractions over the next few years.
