A Lomachenko return against unbeaten contender Charly Suarez could move the former champion toward Emanuel Navarrete at 130 pounds

Vasiliy Lomachenko is reportedly considering a comeback fight against unbeaten Filipino contender Charly Suarez after more than two years away from boxing. The matchup could place Lomachenko directly into the super featherweight title picture and potentially lead toward a fight with Emanuel Navarrete.

BoxingScene reported Wednesday that Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is eyeing Suarez (18-0, 10 KOs) for his first fight in more than two years after walking away from the sport following his win over George Kambosos Jr. in 2024. The report cited an unnamed official familiar with Lomachenko’s plans.

Suarez is scheduled to remain active on the July 11 card at the San Francisco Civic Center before any possible fight with Lomachenko could move forward.

The matchup would immediately carry title implications because Suarez currently holds the WBO mandatory position at 130 pounds after his controversial fight with Navarrete last year.

Navarrete and Suarez originally fought on May 10, 2025, with the bout ending after a cut over Navarrete’s eye forced a stoppage. Navarrete was initially awarded a technical decision victory, but replay later showed the cut had been caused by a Suarez punch rather than a head clash. The California State Athletic Commission later overturned the result to a no-contest, and the WBO ordered a rematch.

Navarrete recently acknowledged the possibility of facing Lomachenko if the former three-division champion returns.

“If he comes for me, then [I’ll] focus on him,” Navarrete said in comments to ESPN Knockout.

Navarrete also praised Lomachenko’s accomplishments after the Ukrainian stepped away from boxing two years ago.

“He’s already done more than enough, right?” Navarrete said. “He’s done a lot of impressive and very good things.”

The report also said no negotiations of substance have taken place between Lomachenko’s representatives and those connected to WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, whose name had frequently been linked to a possible fight with Lomachenko in the past.
