Osleys Iglesias Doubts Saul Alvarez Will Agree To Fight Him

The unbeaten Cuban champion says he wants major fights at 168 pounds but does not expect Canelo to accept the matchup

Osleys Iglesias says he doubts Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will agree to fight him despite continuing to push for major matchups at super middleweight. The unbeaten Cuban champion named Alvarez, Christian Mbilli, Jaime Munguia, and Hamzah Sheeraz among the opponents he wants next at 168 pounds.

The unbeaten Cuban champion mentioned Canelo, Christian Mbilli, Jaime Munguia, and Hamzah Sheeraz while discussing the fights he wants at 168 pounds before casting doubt on whether Alvarez would actually agree to face him.

“I think there are no easy fights. All fights are difficult. Munguia, Mbilli, Sheeraz, Canelo, I think those would all be good fights, but I would prepare differently for each one,” said Osleys to InsideRingShow.

“It’s complicated. Canelo is not going to want this fight.”

Osleys also said he still hopes Alvarez eventually gives him the opportunity to prove himself against boxing’s biggest star.

“Hopefully, God willing, he gives me the fight. And show the world what Cuban fighters are about. Osleys Iglesias is built differently,” said Iglesias.

Iglesias captured the IBF super middleweight title earlier this year and has quickly become one of the more physically imposing fighters at 168 pounds with his combination of size, power, and pressure. The Cuban southpaw has knocked out 14 of his 15 professional opponents and has increasingly started calling for fights against the division’s leading names.

The Cuban southpaw also explained that he intentionally changed his style after leaving Cuba, moving away from a pure technical approach and becoming a more aggressive fighter focused on hurting opponents.

“Before, I was more technical. Now I’m more combative. I sit down more on my punches. I look to hurt my opponent,” said Iglesias. “I think the German and European boxing style changed me.”
