IBF champion questions Adames’ intent after middleweight titleholder says he is ready

Osleys Iglesias says he is not convinced Carlos Adames will follow through on talk of a fight between them. The IBF super middleweight champion questioned Adames’ intent after the middleweight titleholder said he was ready.

Iglesias recently captured the vacant IBF super middleweight title when he stopped Pavel Silyagin in the eighth round on April 9 in Montreal. Since then, his name has grown quickly in discussions around the 168-pound division, especially because of his power and unbeaten record.

The exchange with Adames began earlier this week after Adames said he could beat anyone at 160 or 168 pounds. A user on X challenged him to prove it by facing Iglesias, and Adames replied that he was “ready.”

Iglesias answered immediately and showed interest in the matchup, but his latest comments suggest he doubts Adames truly wants the fight. In his new post, Iglesias called Adames “just a talker,” accused him of avoiding opponents in his own division, and said he was only using his name for attention.

Adames is a PBC fighter, and Iglesias is promoted by Camille Estephan (Eye of the Tiger). Historically, that’s a tough bridge to cross unless the money is massive.

Adames is a veteran, and while he’s talking big about 168, jumping straight into the deep end against a natural, heavy-hitting super middleweight like Iglesias is a massive gamble.

Adames has said he is willing, and even mocked Iglesias, saying he has a “fire extinguisher” for his fire. If the talk continues, the next step will need to come outside social media.

Iglesias calling him a “little pony” is a great way to try to shame him into the ring, but Adames is a savvy operator. He’ll want a “tune-up” at the weight first before facing a guy who finishes 93% of his opponents.

However, if the sanctioning bodies step in or if a site like Riyadh Season decides they want to see it, the money could force their hands.

Iglesias is at a point where he needs a signature win to cement his status as the division’s boogeyman. Adames, while a champion at 160, is talking about moving up to a weight class where he hasn’t yet proven he can take the power of a natural 168-pounder like Iglesias.
