Oscar De La Hoya says he would return to the ring for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather if Mayweather defeats Manny Pacquiao again. The Hall of Famer’s callout brings a past rivalry back into the conversation as another major event could be built around familiar names.

“I am a fighter. I will always be a fighter. If Mayweather beats Pacquiao, Floyd, you owe me a rematch! Let’s go!” De La Hoya said while speaking to FightHype.

The timing drew attention because De La Hoya had recently appeared in Washington, tied to a discussion around the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act. After the hearing, he blasted the process and described it as a scripted political show.

Now the focus has shifted back to a familiar boxing theme: older stars chasing one more major event.

Mayweather defeated De La Hoya by split decision in 2007 in one of the biggest pay-per-view fights of that era. De La Hoya has long argued he deserved the verdict, and the result remains one of the more debated scorecards from Mayweather’s rise to superstardom.

A real return would come with obvious questions given De La Hoya’s age and long absence from competition. But recent years have shown there is still major money attached to recognizable names, old rivalries, and nostalgia-driven events.

That may be the real opening here. De La Hoya knows the business side of boxing as well as anyone, and he can see what these veteran spectacles are worth when the right platform is involved.
