Shane Mosley Backs Zuffa Boxing, Dismisses Oscar De La Hoya

The Hall of Famer praised Zuffa’s matchmaking, questioned De La Hoya’s influence, and predicted Shakur Stevenson will secure the fights he wants.

Shane Mosley believes Zuffa Boxing has quickly established itself by delivering high-profile fights. The Hall of Famer also dismissed Oscar De La Hoya’s criticism of the promotion and questioned how much influence the Golden Boy founder still has in boxing.

“I like what they’re doing,” Mosley said to Fighthype. “At first, I wasn’t really sure what was going on, but as I see that they’re picking up a lot of the big fighters and they’re making the big fights. They’re making the big fights happen, and I’m all for that.”

The conversation turned to De La Hoya, who has criticized Zuffa’s arrival in boxing. Mosley questioned how much influence the Golden Boy Promotions founder still has over the sport.

“He was already saying Zuffa’s nothing, Dana White’s nothing,” Mosley said. “Then all of a sudden his script changed. I don’t know. Somebody must have told him you better be quiet.”

Mosley continued by arguing that De La Hoya’s voice no longer carries the same authority within boxing.

“He can be vocal all he wants all the time,” Mosley said. “But do we take it as serious? Is his word really powerful anymore? I don’t think so. Turki’s word matters. Not Oscar anymore. Oscar talks, but you’re not the one making the last decision.”

Mosley also backed Zuffa’s signing of Shakur Stevenson, saying he does not expect the former three-division champion to have any trouble securing the marquee fights he wants.

“I don’t think so,” Mosley said. “I think that all the fights that he wants to fight, anybody wants to.”
