Mariusz Wach Targets Tyson Fury Upset, Says Joshua Fight Distracts Him

The veteran heavyweight believes Fury’s focus is drifting toward a proposed Anthony Joshua fight rather than their July 24 meeting in Thailand

Mariusz Wach believes Tyson Fury is already looking ahead to Anthony Joshua instead of focusing fully on their July 24 heavyweight fight in Thailand. The Polish veteran says Fury’s attention could be divided by future plans, creating an opening for an upset.

Fury has repeatedly promoted the bout as a charity event, revealing on Instagram that it will not be broadcast live and instead will be featured on the third season of his Netflix series At Home with the Furys. He also said proceeds from the 1,500 VIP tickets will go to homeless and starving children in Pattaya, while the WBC is creating a commemorative belt for the occasion.

Wach, however, thinks Fury’s attention is being pulled in too many directions.

“I’ve lost a few fights, but I will do my best to stop Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua from happening,” Wach told talkSPORT.

“I imagine that this will be the hardest fight of my career. I train and prepare for this fight as if it is.

“I think that Tyson Fury will not be 100 percent prepared for this fight because he is thinking about this fight with Joshua.

“I hope that he is very focused on making the Netflix series and that it will affect his preparation.”

Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) is a massive favorite against the 46-year-old Wach (39-13, 20 KOs), who has lost seven of his last 10 fights and is listed by some bookmakers as a 100/1 underdog. The former heavyweight champion is expected to face Anthony Joshua later this year if he comes through the bout unscathed.

Fury bounced back from his undisputed title losses to Oleksandr Usyk by outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov in April. He treats this trip to Thailand as critical preparation to stay sharp. If Wach can pull off the upset, he ruins the domestic blockbuster boxing fans have waited a generation to see.
