Devin Haney Fires Back At WBC President, Says He Paid For His Own VADA Testing

Haney says his criticism was never aimed at the WBC and renews his demand for year-round VADA testing in his dispute with Ryan Garcia

Devin Haney says his dispute was never with the WBC after responding to president Mauricio Sulaiman on Monday. Instead, the former two-division world champion used the exchange to renew his criticism of Ryan Garcia over year-round VADA testing.

Haney’s response shifts the focus back to Ryan, arguing that he has voluntarily paid for year-round VADA testing himself rather than relying only on testing required for individual fights. He presented that as evidence of his commitment to stricter anti-doping standards and a safer sport.

The exchange is the latest chapter in the continuing feud between Haney and Ryan, whose rivalry has increasingly centered on drug-testing protocols since their 2024 fight. Haney has repeatedly argued that year-round VADA enrollment should become the standard for elite fighters, while Garcia has rejected Haney’s criticisms and questioned his motives.

This post is less about correcting Sulaiman than it is about keeping the pressure on Garcia.

By saying that he personally funded year-round VADA testing, Haney is trying to strengthen his position in the public debate over anti-doping. His accusation that Ryan is “running” from VADA keeps the testing issue alive as long as the two remain linked in the public eye.

Another fight remains uncertain, but Haney has made drug testing a central part of his campaign against Ryan, and Monday’s response shows he has no intention of letting the issue fade.
