Jack Catterall Renews Call For Rolando Romero Fight

New WBA regular welterweight champion renews his pursuit of Romero days after defeating Shakhram Giyasov in Egypt

Jack Catterall wasted little time calling for a fight with Rolando Romero after capturing the WBA regular welterweight title last weekend. The British southpaw publicly challenged the newly elevated WBA champion on social media as he looks to secure the biggest fight available at welterweight.

The challenge is the latest public attempt by Catterall to secure a fight with Romero. Since becoming the WBA welterweight champion in May 2025, Romero has been linked to bigger-name opponents, including Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Conor Benn, and Manny Pacquiao.

Catterall’s latest post arrives as the WBA title picture begins to tighten. Rolly previously bypassed a fight with former mandatory Giyasov before the Uzbek contender went on to challenge for the vacant regular title. Catterall now holds that belt, placing him directly beneath Romero in the WBA hierarchy.

While a fight with Catterall may not carry the commercial appeal of some of the names connected to Rolly, it offers significant title implications. Romero’s championship reign now comes with an obligation that could eventually bring the two fighters together.

Romero has shown little public interest in the matchup. Catterall, however, appears determined to keep his name in front of the champion until he gets an answer.
