Eubank Jr vs Langford: Langford ‘Comfortable’ as the Underdog against Eubank Jr

It was officially confirmed midweek that Tommy Langford will be challenging for the British Middleweight Title against the defending champion Chris Eubank Jr in Cardiff on October 22nd at the Motorpoint Arena.

It is by far Tommy’s toughest fight to date as he takes on a guy who continues to prove he is worthy of his Legendary name with explosive victories in recent times, and not forgetting it could of easily been Chris Eubank Jr vs Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin not so long ago.

Eubank Jr will certainly be a strong favourite to successfully defend his British title yet again making Langford the underdog going into the fight, but it is a position the Birmingham-based Middleweight is happy to be in;

“Being a underdog is a good thing for me.” said Langford.

He continued; “I’ve been battling against doubter and nay-sayers all my amateur and pro career so it is not something I’m fazed by and actually feel quite comfortable in this position.”

If previous Eubank Jr fights are anything to go by than we should be in for an entertaining build up. There is hardly a dull moment when the Eubanks are involved, mostly down to Eubank Snr and his obvious desire to be in the limelight at any chance possible.

‘English’, as Chris Eubank prefers to be called, has easily managed to rile up his son’s opponents and their teams in the past by his disrespectful manner he usually supplies, but again it is nothing which worries Langford the slightest;

“I’m not fussed with what the Eubanks are doing or saying, I’m just happy it’s [the fight] signed and date confirmed. Obviously there has to be a build up and it’s great to be involved in a fight of this magnitude. After all that is what I’m in boxing for, but ultimately we are going to be fighting each other on October 22nd so anything said or done before that is irrelevant.”

The fight will be 27-year-old Tommy Langford’s second successive fight to take place in Cardiff, Wales, previously beating Finnish boxer Timo Laine back in July.

Langford says; “Cardiff is a great venue for me.”

He continued; “obviously the original hope was Birmingham [where Langford resides] but Cardiff works brilliant because it’s right in the middle of my two fan bases, Midlands and Devon.”

Tommy Langford vs Chris Eubank Jr will be a co-main event alongside another tasty, domestic encounter with Liam Williams defending his British and Commonwealth Super Welterweight titles against Ahmet Patterson.

“It’s another great fight and an opportunity for both fighters who are both good boxers In their own right but I’m good mates with Liam, have done countless rounds sparring with him and I know his potential so Williams wins for me.”
