Ryan Garcia Questions Conor Benn’s Weight Cut as Tickets Go on Sale for Las Vegas Title Fight

Public ticket sales open July 24 as Garcia predicts Benn’s return to 147 pounds will be his toughest challenge before fight night.

General ticket sales begin Friday, July 24, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) through AXS. UFC Fight Club members already have access to tickets, while an additional presale opens Thursday for supporters who register through Zuffa Boxing.

As anticipation builds, Garcia believes the biggest battle for his opponent could come before either man throws a punch.

The champion questioned whether Benn can comfortably return to the 147-pound welterweight limit after spending his last several fights campaigning above the division.

“He seems like a pretty big guy. It’s just the fact that he went to 160 and now he’s gonna shoot all the way down to 147. He did it once with Regis at 150, but those three pounds when you’re cutting weight is much more than you think. That may play a part. I want him at his strongest but I’m just saying. I think he’s gonna struggle with making weight. Maybe he won’t, maybe he will,” Garcia said on Mr. Verzace’s YouTube channel.

Benn has boxed as high as middleweight in his two fights with Chris Eubank Jr. before returning at a 150-pound catchweight to defeat Regis Prograis in April. Earlier appearances against Peter Dobson and Rodolfo Orozco were also contested above the welterweight limit.

The British contender has acknowledged the challenge awaiting him but remains confident he will arrive at the championship weight.

“I’ve been walking around at 175-180 pounds for the past three years. I had six weeks to make 150; I did it. You know why I did it? Because I’m disciplined. Is getting down to 147 gonna be grueling? Is it gonna be tough? Is it gonna be hard? Of course it is, but I live for that. I ain’t no softie over here. I work hard, I train hard. The discipline will continue to prevail, and that’s why I will make 147, and that’s why I will take that belt home,” Benn told The Ring.

Garcia captured the WBC welterweight championship with a unanimous decision over Mario Barrios in February and now makes his first defense during Mexican Independence Day weekend.

The event will stream globally on Paramount+ at no additional cost for subscribers outside the United Kingdom and Ireland. Fans in those two markets can watch live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Zuffa Boxing has yet to reveal the supporting bouts, with the remainder of the card expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
