Carlos Adames Says He’s Ready for Osleys Iglesias

WBC middleweight champion signals willingness to move up after IBF titleholder Iglesias callout

Carlos Adames says he is open to a fight with Osleys Iglesias after being challenged on social media. The WBC middleweight champion replied “I’m ready,” raising the possibility of a move to 168 pounds.

Adames drew attention after posting that nobody at middleweight or super middleweight can beat him. Boxing account Hassanwellss quickly replied by telling him to face Osleys Iglesias, who recently won the vacant IBF title at 168.

Carlos Adames then answered directly: “I’m ready.”

That short reply changed the conversation from routine social media talk into a matchup fans would like to see. Iglesias (15-0, 14 KOs) stopped Pavel Silyagin on April 9 to win his belt and has quickly become one of the more dangerous names in the division.

Fans reacted strongly to the exchange. Some praised the idea as one of the better fights available between the 160 and 168-pound classes. Others questioned whether Adames would actually move up to face a younger puncher in Iglesias.

Adames holds the WBC middleweight title and has often spoken confidently about his standing in the sport. A fight with Iglesias would give him the chance to back up that claim against an unbeaten titleholder one division higher.

Osleys Iglesias is a completely different beast than anyone Carlos Adames has faced at middleweight. While Adames is a heavy-handed, elite operator, Iglesias is effectively the “final boss” of the super middleweight division right now, the guy with the high-risk, low-reward profile that usually makes champions look the other way.

Iglesias has been destroying credible opposition. On April 9, he stopped Pavel Silyagin, a guy known for being an awkward, durable spoiler. He pummeled him until Silyagin’s corner had to stop it in the eighth.

The southpaw Iglesias is a massive 168-pounder with a reach and frame that will make Adames look like a “manlet” by comparison, as some fans have already pointed out.

Adames has a history of being bold, but his current positioning suggests he is looking for a legacy-defining shortcut. He has been accused of struggling to make 160, as evidenced by his hospitalization before the original Ammo Williams date. Moving to 168 might be a physical necessity.

By targeting Iglesias, Adames is targeting the newly minted IBF champion. If he’s going to move up, he clearly wants to go straight for a title rather than languishing in the rankings.

Adames is coming off a dominant win over Austin Williams and feels invincible. In his head, he believes his speed and IQ will neutralize the Cuban’s power.

Taking this fight would be one of the ballsiest moves in recent boxing history because Iglesias has the technical tools to outbox him and the power to end it early.

If Adames actually signs the contract, he earns immediate respect for not taking a tune-up at the new weight. Nothing official has been announced, but this is the type of risk fight fans usually ask for.
