Jaron Ennis, Sebastian Fundora Open Talks For Three-Belt Title Fight

Negotiations are underway for a November or December showdown that would unify the WBA, WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles

Jaron “Boots” Ennis could be heading straight into another championship fight. Negotiations have begun for the unified WBA and WBO champion to face WBC titleholder Sebastian Fundora in a three-belt unification bout targeted for November or December.

Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger revealed that talks between the two sides have started. If completed, the bout would match Ennis’ WBA and WBO championships against Fundora’s WBC belt in one of the biggest fights available at 154 pounds.

Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) announced himself as a major force in the division by stopping Xander Zayas on Saturday night to unify two world titles. Rather than taking a softer first defense, the Philadelphia star appears ready to pursue another champion immediately.

Fundora presents a completely different puzzle. He owns one of boxing’s most unusual styles, combining a massive reach advantage with a willingness to fight at close range. He won the WBC title by defeating Tim Tszyu before defending it against Chordale Booker, Tszyu in a rematch, and Keith Thurman.

For Ennis, the fight represents another opportunity to separate himself from the rest of the division. A win would leave him holding three of the four major world titles and put him one step away from becoming the undisputed junior middleweight champion.
