Hadribeaj Exposes Fundora As Walking Target For Boots Ennis

Sebastian Fundora scraped past Ermal Hadribeaj on Saturday night, but trainer Stephen Edwards argues the messy win dented his standing ahead of an undisputed clash with Jaron “Boots” Ennis.

Edwards pointed out that sharing the ring with Vergil Ortiz Jr. would have created far more upside for the WBC junior middleweight champion. Grinding through a war against an established puncher earns respect. Struggling against an opponent unfamiliar to general audiences simply damages a champion’s reputation.

“Fundora should’ve fought Vergil Ortiz tonight. You can have a ‘tough’ night vs a known killer,” Edwards posted on X. “But when you have one vs an unknown opp, you lose a little luster.”

Hadribeaj held mandatory status, yet Fundora’s side could have explored step-aside terms to pursue marquee options. Names like Ortiz, Brandon Adams, Israil Madrimov, Bakhram Murtazaliev, Xander Zayas, or Abass Baraou presented viable alternatives.

Fundora took heavy punishment without the credibility boost from winning the fight. Hadribeaj raised his profile by making the champion look beatable, while Fundora gained practically nothing without delivering a statement knockout.

His towering stature failed to neutralize Hadribeaj’s pressure. That messy outing gave observers plenty of reasons to doubt how Fundora survives against an elite puncher like Ennis.

“Now Fundora will be a considerable underdog vs Boots Ennis, if Boots beats Kelly,” Edwards noted.

If Ennis unifies against IBF titleholder Josh Kelly, he could hold three belts at 154 pounds. Fundora controls the remaining WBC strap, which keeps an undisputed summit on the table.

Fundora wants an equal revenue split, yet Saturday’s showing leaves him with minimal leverage at the negotiating table.

Hadribeaj proved his talent inside the ropes, but Edwards highlighted the tactical error in matchmaking. Fundora kept his belt, yet walked away looking fragile right before his biggest potential payday.

If Hadribeaj could split Fundora’s guard and back him up, the elite crop at 154 would have an absolute field day. A sharp operator like Ennis would not just outwork him; he would carve him to ribbons inside four rounds.
