HOLLYWOOD, FL, June 19 – On Friday, July 31st, the hottest boxing doubleheader of the summer lands at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida when unbeaten rising star Victor Cayo steps up to the plate against former world champion Julio “The Kidd” Diaz, and heavyweight contenders Carl Drumond and Chazz Witherspoon collide on an explosive edition of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.

Considered a top prospect, Santo Domingo’s Victor Manuel Cayo (22-0, 15 KOs) has dazzled boxing insiders with his fast hands, ring savvy, and fight ending power. This was never more evident than on May 30, 2009, where he blitzed veteran Arturo Morua and took him out in just 58 seconds. That victory set up what will be the 24-year old’s toughest test yet, when he battles former two-time world champ Julio Diaz.
Clearly one of the best lightweights of the last ten years, Julio “The Kidd” Diaz (36-5, 26 KOs) has put fight fans on their feet with his aggressive style and non-stop punching. In 2004, the Coachella, California resident won the first of two lightweight titles by outpointing Javier Jauregui, and he has since been in the ring with the cream of the lightweight crop, including Jose Luis Castillo, Jesus Chavez, and Juan Diaz. He’ll now be returning to where he won his 2nd World Title where he out pointed opponent Ricky Quiles in 2006. Now intent on winning a third belt, Diaz will first have to get by young gun Victor Cayo.
Costa Rica native Carl Davis Drumond (26-1, 20 KOs) was always seen as boxing’s mystery man as he tore through his opponents from 2005 to 2008. But it was in February of 2009 that the world got to see that this 34 year old banger was for real, as he put in an impressive performance against WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev that was cut short via an accidental clash of heads that rendered Chagaev unable to continue and the winner via technical decision. Eager for another crack at the belt, Drumond will look to take out Chazz Witherspoon and rocket back up the ranks.
A 2004 National Golden Gloves Champion and US Olympic Alternate, “Gentleman” Chazz Witherspoon (25-1, 17 KOs) is an exciting young heavyweight on the verge of joining his cousin, former heavyweight champ Tim Witherspoon, at the top of the sport’s glamour division. A proud resident of Philadelphia, Witherspoon has impressively won his last two fights via knockout over Travis Fulton and Adam Richards, and he’s planning on extending his KO streak on July 31st.
