News: Adamek-Gunn; Birthday Bash in the Ballroom

Totowa, New Jersey—The “Main Event Boxing Series” brings world championship boxing back to Newark’s Prudential Center on Saturday, July 11th as World IBF Cruiserweight Champion Tomasz “Goral” Adamek of Jersey City puts his title on the line against popular Hackensack Cruiserweight Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn, promoters Main Events and Ziggy Promotions announced today..

Also slated to appear on the show are a quartet of unbeaten standouts, including Paterson Welterweight Henry Crawford, (21-0); Morganville, N.J.’s promising middleweight prospect Denis “The Momma’s Boy” Douglin, (2-0, 2 KO’s) and undefeated Polish standouts Piotor Wilczewski, (22-0, super middleweight) and 13-0 cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak.

In his previous two appearances at “The Rock,” Adamek, (37-1, 25 KO’s) thrilled his legion of fans with his non-stop action packed performances. In December of 2008, Adamek took the IBF Cruiserweight title and earned recognition as the linear “Ring Magazine” Cruiserweight Titlist, when he knocked down Philadelphia’s Steve Cunningham twice to rock the house with a breathtaking upset victory that was cited for “Fight of the Year” honors. Two months later the native of Zywiec, Poland successfully defended his title against Jonathan Banks of Detroit’s famed Kronk Gym before a house full of partisan fans with a blistering eighth round knockout.

Adamek promises his fans more of the same when he takes the ring on July 11th. “I love performing in front of my fans at Prudential Center in Newark,” he said. “I can’t wait to get back there in July and give them another good show.”

“I’m over the moon,” the hard punching Gunn (21-3, 18 KO’s) said when he learned that the bout was made. “I’m going to make everyone proud of me. Just wait and see. I am so excited.”

Tickets, priced at $38, $53, $78, $103 (floor), and $253 (ringside), can be purchased at Prudential Center Box Office, by calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000 or Prucenter.com. First fight 7:00pm.

Gunn Signs to Fight Adamek, Amped For a Career Defining Opportunity

When Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn initially challenged Tomasz Adamek in 2007, he had a clear motive. While many fighters call out the best simply for publicity, Gunn’s had something else in mind: a good old-fashioned slug out.

“Styles make fights, said Gunn, who holds the WBA-NABA and WBC-USNBC Cruiserweight titles. “Gunn vs Adamek will be the Adamek-Briggs of the Cruiserweight division. Fans want to see good fights and all I know how to do is entertain.Since the day he made waves by calling out Adamek, Gunn was dreaming of a showdown with the gutsy Pole. Although logistics prevented a December 2007 fight, Gunn still had hope. Last week, when fellow contender Matt Godfrey decided against taking on Adamek, his promoter Main Events contacted Gunn.

Gunn formally received an offer for his dream fight, which he said would be best billed as “The Garden State War”. With the IBF and Ring Magazine title as well as something he had his mind set on for more than two years, Gunn didn’t think twice about the opportunity of a lifetime.

Gunn quickly signed to face Adamek, who holds a stellar 37-1 pro record with 25 KO’s. Globally recognized as the lineal Cruiserweight champion of the world, Adamek is a popular, fan friendly brawler with a strong following in New Jersey. Gunn acknowledges the gargantuan task in front of him and knows he will have to take his training to another level to be fully prepared.

“The opportunity to fight the best in the world is not something many boxers get”, said Gunn, who boasts a pro ledger of 21-3-1 with 18 knockouts. “I was training even before the fight was announced and already am in great shape. Come fight night, my conditioning will be the best of my career. I have learned from my setbacks and on July 11, you will see a new Bobby Gunn!”

The Gunn-Adamek bout will take place July 11 at The Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Tickets can be ordered by calling 973-200-7050 Fans can contact Bobby at Myspace.com/TeamGunn.
