Vasiliy Lomachenko offered shot at WBC title for comeback bout

The WBC super featherweight champion says he is ready to defend his title against Lomachenko after the former three-division champion reversed his retirement

O’Shaquie Foster wants to welcome Vasiliy Lomachenko back with a world title fight. The WBC super featherweight champion has publicly offered the former three-division champion an immediate shot at his belt after reports that Lomachenko plans to resume his career.

“I would give him the opportunity,” Foster told The Ring. “I can be the first one he comes to see. I’ll send him back to where he needs to be. If you’re coming back, let’s get it done. I got the title, and I’ll put it up. We can make it happen.”

The two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko retired after stopping George Kambosos Jr. to win the IBF lightweight title in May 2024, citing a lack of motivation. However, his manager, Egis Klimas, has since confirmed that the Ukrainian has reversed that decision and is preparing for another run, with major fights expected to be the priority.

The 38-year-old previously held the WBO super featherweight title before moving up to lightweight, where he unified three major world championships. A return at 130 pounds would immediately put him back in the title picture, and Foster has wasted little time in making his interest known.

Reports have indicated that Lomachenko has no interest in taking a tune-up when he returns, instead targeting high-profile opponents immediately.
