Tim Bradley Says Devin Haney Beats Shakur Stevenson At 147

Bradley says Haney’s size, pressure, and years of sparring would create problems for Stevenson at welterweight

Tim Bradley believes Devin Haney would hold the advantage over Shakur Stevenson in a welterweight fight. Bradley said Haney’s size, smart pressure, and years of sparring experience with Stevenson could change the matchup at 147 pounds.

“Right now, at 147lbs, I would give Devin the edge, but at 144lbs I would give it to Shakur,” Bradley said to Fighthype.

Bradley explained that Haney’s size and understanding of Stevenson’s style could make life difficult for the unbeaten four-division champion.

“Devin understands Shakur, he understands how to deal with him and knows what he has got to do,” Bradley said. “It will be a mixture of boxing and smart pressure and letting his hands go.”

The former two-division world champion also pointed to the pair’s history behind closed doors.

“I have watched their sparring sessions a hundred times, and Devin has got some dog in him too,” Bradley said.

Bradley believes Stevenson would struggle to control the fight at 147 pounds the same way he has against smaller opponents at lightweight and junior welterweight.

“Shakur has got dog in him, as well, but Shakur wouldn’t be able to be cute on the outside and beat him with just one hand, ain’t no way,” Bradley said. “So, at 147lbs, right now, I would favor Devin.”

Stevenson recently became the WBO junior welterweight champion after dominating Teofimo Lopez earlier this year. Haney has also been linked to a possible move to welterweight following growing speculation surrounding a future fight between the two rivals.

Both fighters have additionally been connected to Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing in recent weeks, although no official fight agreement has been announced.

Bradley thinks Haney’s size at 147 would force Stevenson into a much more physical fight than he is used to. Stevenson normally controls distance against smaller opponents, but Haney’s reach, weight, and familiarity from sparring could make it harder for him to stay comfortable on the outside.
