Price says Itauma should stay away from Dubois after the new WBO champion stopped Fabio Wardley
David Price believes Moses Itauma should avoid a fight with Daniel Dubois for now following Dubois’ stoppage win over Fabio Wardley. Price said Dubois’ experience, power, and rounds at world level make him a dangerous opponent for the unbeaten 21-year-old.
Price thinks the timing is wrong.
“I don’t think that it will happen, because Frank Warren promotes the two of them, it is not going to happen for a long time and rightly so,” said David Price to Seconds Out.
Price pointed to the age difference and the amount of experience Dubois already carries at the world level compared to the unbeaten 21-year-old Itauma.
“Dubois is 28, Itauma is 21. That is not going to happen until it is worth what Fury-Joshua is looking towards now, or just around that. So, they are not going to do that just yet, I think,” said Price.
“From an opinion point of view, I would keep Moses Itauma away from Daniel Dubois just now. I don’t think that he is ready for him yet.”
Price believes Dubois’ losses and difficult fights have made him more dangerous than his record alone suggests.
“Look at Dubois’ record, who he has beaten, who he has lost to, what he has experienced, and all of that. Moses Itauma doesn’t need to fight someone like that just yet,” said Price.
“It will happen, and when it does happen it will be much bigger than it is now, but we need to patient with that one.”
Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) is expected to headline at the O2 Arena on August 8 before making his U.S. debut later this year.
