Terence Crawford Rejects Jaron Ennis Comparisons After Eddie Hearn’s Praise

Crawford responds after Eddie Hearn names Ennis as future No.1

Terence Crawford has rejected comparisons with Jaron Ennis after being named as a potential successor at the top of the sport. Crawford responded directly following comments from promoter Eddie Hearn.

“I’ve seen all the top fighters,” said Eddie Hearn about Jaron Ennis on Instagram. “I truly believe that Jaron Ennis is the pound-for-pound number one in waiting. I think this guy’s going to go through this division, move up to 160, three-weight world champion. I think he’s the guy to replace Terence Crawford. I think he’s that good.”

Crawford did not sound convinced.

The comment was short, but it left little doubt about how Crawford views the comparisons between himself and Ennis.

The timing of the comparison has also become more noticeable after Crawford retired following his victory over Canelo Alvarez last year.

Boots is now preparing for one of the biggest fights of his career against Xander Zayas at 154 pounds after moving up from welterweight, which was the same division Crawford once ruled as undisputed champion.

The difference, at least in Crawford’s eyes, may come down to accomplishments. Crawford retired unbeaten after winning world titles across four weight classes and becoming undisputed champion in three divisions before closing his career with a victory over Saul Canelo Alvarez last September.

Ennis still has time to build that kind of record, but Crawford’s response made it clear he does not believe the conversation belongs in the same category yet.
