Shakur Stevenson Rejects Bandwagon Supporters Amid Haney Speculation

Boxing 24/7 Wire - 10/04/2026 - Comments

Shakur Stevenson wants his doubters to bet against him and stay off his bandwagon afterward, with his latest message appearing aimed at Devin Haney’s backers as interest in their potential fight returns.

Haney’s Instagram footage showing the pair facing off gives Shakur’s challenge a likely target. Haney would bring questions about size, weight, and whether Shakur can control a skilled opponent who has operated at welterweight.

“AND ION WANT NUN OF U CLOWNS JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON,” Shakur posted on X. “STAY OVER THERE PUT THAT BREAD AGAINST ME NOW. PUT YA MONEY WHERE YA MOUTH IS #HIM.”

The message makes more sense in connection with Haney than Gary Antuanne Russell, whom Shakur has also expressed interest in fighting. Russell would offer a light welterweight unification, but Haney presents a more obvious reason for people to question whether Shakur can impose his usual control.

Haney’s reach and physical size could make it harder for Shakur to settle into his preferred style. Against someone who also works behind a jab and limits clean exchanges, Shakur might need to initiate more often to win rounds. Haney, meanwhile, would have to turn his size into effective offense against an opponent who gives away few clean openings.

Shakur’s challenge also raises expectations for his next opponent. Telling critics to bet against him builds interest if the fight gives them a reason to doubt him. Without an opponent attached, fans cannot judge the risk he is asking them to take.

His Zuffa deal adds a commercial question. Shakur can command attention through exchanges with other fighters, but turning that attention into an audience requires those rivalries to produce actual bouts. Haney would give his next appearance a story beyond another argument on X.

Beating Teofimo Lopez strengthened Shakur’s credentials at light welterweight. Facing Haney would test whether he can extend that success against a bigger opponent.

Their earlier discussions included a proposed 144-pound catchweight. Neither the footage nor this post confirms a completed deal. If Shakur wants doubters to commit their money, announcing the Haney fight would give them something concrete to bet against.
