Chris Mannix says Lomachenko-Shakur Stevenson is the bigger fight, while Sergio Mora believes Gervonta Davis is the smarter matchup for the former champion

Vasiliy Lomachenko’s reported return to boxing has already sparked debate over whether the former champion should face Shakur Stevenson or Gervonta Davis next. Chris Mannix called a Lomachenko-Stevenson fight the bigger matchup, while Sergio Mora argued the younger, bigger Stevenson is now too much for the 38-year-old former champion.

“I think Shakur is big. Shakur and Loma’s a big fight. Bigger than Tank and Loma,” Mannix said to DAZN Boxing. “I think him and Shakur is such a chess match. It’s such a high-level fight between two high level guys are there any more skilled guys in boxing than Lomachenko and Shakur?”

Stevenson no longer competes at lightweight after moving up to 140 pounds earlier this year, where he defeated Teofimo Lopez for the WBO light welterweight title.

Shakur has also recently appeared on several Riyadh Season-backed cards after much of his earlier career took place on ESPN.

Sergio Mora said Stevenson is now too big, too young, and too active for the 38-year-old Lomachenko.

“Definitely not Shakur. Why not? Because I think two decorated amateurs. I get it. But medalists, stars, Shakur is on another level now. He’s bigger. He’s younger. He’s faster. He’s stronger,” Mora said. “I would rather Loma go for someone like a Tank Davis because they’re going to be equal in stature. They’re going to be equal in somewhat and inactivity.”

Mora also rejected the idea that Lomachenko has become a defensive fighter late in his career.

“We see how he beat the crap out of Richard Comey. How he beat the crap out of George Kambosos. I don’t put him as a defensive-minded fighter,” Mora said. “He is all offense. He is all gas, no break when it comes to offense.”
