Isaac Cruz Out Of Gervonta Davis Return Plans After Eddy Reynoso Move

Cruz’s expected partnership with Reynoso removes one of the safest major opponents linked to Davis’ comeback at 140 pounds

Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz is no longer expected to be part of Gervonta Davis’ comeback plans, removing one of the most realistic opponents connected to Tank’s return at 140 pounds. The development surfaced alongside reports that Cruz has joined trainer Eddy Reynoso ahead of the next stage of his career.

The update quickly shifted attention toward who Davis could face when he returns. Cruz had been viewed as one of the safer high-profile options because of their history and the built-in fan interest from their 2021 fight, which Davis won by unanimous decision.

Removing Cruz from the picture leaves Tank tied to more dangerous or politically difficult names. Vasiliy Lomachenko has repeatedly been mentioned as a possibility for a fall return fight if he comes back as expected. Shakur Stevenson has also continued pushing for the matchup after moving to 140 pounds earlier this year.

Devin Haney and Conor Benn are other potential money fights, although both carry more risk and complications than a Cruz rematch. Haney is coming off a dominant win over Brian Norman Jr. to capture the WBO welterweight title, while Benn has continued building momentum since joining Zuffa Boxing.

The Reynoso move could also signal that Cruz is looking to rebuild after inconsistent recent performances. Reynoso is best known for his long partnership with Canelo Alvarez and for tightening fighters technically without completely changing their styles.

Changing Cruz too much could be dangerous, though. His pressure and aggression remain the biggest reasons fans pay attention to him in the first place.
