Oleksander Usyk Lists Agit Kabayel As Possible Opponent Before Retirement

Usyk revealed he may have only three fights left while unbeaten heavyweight contender Agit Kabayel continues rising into the title picture

Oleksandr Usyk says retirement is approaching quickly after revealing he may only have three fights remaining in his career, including Saturday’s fight with Rico Verhoeven. The unbeaten heavyweight champion also continues seeing new contenders emerge around him, with Agit Kabayel increasingly entering the discussion for one of Usyk’s final fights.

Usyk returns on Saturday, live on DAZN PPV, against Rico Verhoeven in Egypt at the Pyramids of Giza, but he again spoke openly about the limited amount of time he plans to continue fighting.

“Three fights [including Verhoeven] and finished,” said Usyk during an interview streamed by DAZN. “It’s not 100 percent, but when I say I’m retired, I won’t be back.

“It’s going to be different, but it’s going to be a great show. Of course, it’s a tough fight. It’s not an easy walk. It doesn’t matter who I am fighting; I am prepared 100 percent. He’s a good challenge.”

The talk around Usyk’s remaining opponents has continued to grow because most of the top heavyweight names have already fought him, in some cases twice. He owns two victories each over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois.

Kabayel has increasingly become part of the conversation after building a 27-0 record with 19 knockouts and capturing the WBC interim heavyweight position. He is viewed as one of the leading contenders still waiting for a title opportunity.

“My team is preparing me for his style, and I trust my team,” Usyk said about Verhoeven. “I don’t feel the pressure in this fight. I just work. I do what I can do. I am training hard every day. I feel good. For me, it’s my discipline, my work.”
