Joshua fight mentioned after breakout win

Moses Itauma has not ruled out a future fight with Anthony Joshua following his latest win.

The unbeaten heavyweight is coming off a statement performance against Jermaine Franklin, where he delivered a stoppage that quickly put him back into wider discussion among fans and analysts.

“If that’s a fight to make, that’s a fight to make,” said Itauma on the Ariel Helwani channel, when asked about his interest in a fight against Anthony Joshua.

Itauma did not expand on timing or conditions, but the answer leaves the door open as interest in his next step continues to grow.

If the Saudi investors or a major promoter decides to fast-track the Joshua fight for a summer or winter blockbuster, the demand is certainly there for a clash with Itauma.

Queensberry and Frank Warren are highly unlikely to prioritize a Joshua-Itauma fight right now because the risk-to-reward ratio for the “Battle of Britain” between AJ and Tyson Fury is simply too skewed.

While the fans are buzzing after Itauma’s destruction of Jermaine Franklin last weekend, the boxing business operates on a different timeline. Putting Itauma in with Joshua today would be a classic case of “cannibalizing” your own future.

Turki Alalshikh has already teased a massive September 2026 date in London for what he calls “one of the greatest fights in history,” which almost everyone assumes is Joshua vs. Fury.

With both Joshua and Fury entering the twilight of their careers, this is a “now or never” legacy fight. Neither camp wants to risk a young lion like Itauma derailing a 100-million-pound event.

Joshua vs. Fury would sell out Wembley Stadium in minutes. Joshua vs. Itauma, while intriguing to hardcore fans, doesn’t have the same casual crossover appeal yet.

Discussion around a possible meeting with Joshua and Itauma has picked up online in recent days, with opinions divided on whether it is the right move at this stage.

Some view Itauma’s speed and aggression as a difficult style for any heavyweight, while others point to Joshua’s experience at world level as a key factor if such a fight were to be considered.
