Mike Coppinger reports that Charlo is being positioned for a 154-pound showdown with the winner later this year

Jermell Charlo is reportedly being lined up to face the winner of the July 25 fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu. According to Mike Coppinger, discussions behind the scenes have positioned the former undisputed champion for a return against whichever fighter emerges victorious in Australia.

It will be Spence’s first fight since his loss to Terence Crawford in 2023. Tszyu, meanwhile, is attempting to re-establish himself among the division’s elite following a turbulent stretch in his career.

“I’m told he’s going to be lined up for the winner of [Spence-Tszyu],” Mike Coppinger said on InsideRingShow. “Obviously, nothing’s done yet. What I’m told is that, behind the scenes, Charlo is being lined up for that fight, which will be at 154.”

A victory for Spence would pave the way for an all-American showdown between two former unified champions. Spence and Jermell also trained under Derrick James during their title reigns.

If Tszyu gets past Spence, he could move into a bout with another former undisputed champion. Jermell, 36, has not fought since his unanimous decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in September 2023.

Before those discussions can become reality, however, both Spence and Tszyu must handle the task in front of them on July 25. The winner could leave the ring with far more than just a comeback victory or another step toward contention. A showdown with Charlo may await.
