Jarrell Miller Vs. Deontay Wilder Possible: “Run It In New York”

Jarrell Miller scored a notable win last night in decisioning unbeaten Cuban Lenier Pero. 37-year-old Miller, working for the first time with new trainer Bozy Ennis, threw a heck of a lot of punches, the stats saying over 1,000. With the unanimous decision victory, Miller remains in contention for a title shot, “Big Baby” having picked up a WBA elimination win with the result against Pero, now 13-1(8).

Miller, one of the most colorful trash-talkers in the game, wants to fight just about everyone – Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, and more big names. Now, having given his career a solid shot in the arm, Miller might be close to a big fight with Wilder.

Eddie Hearn, speaking post-fight to Sky Sports, said Miller Vs. Wilder is “the American fight” to make. Hearn wants to see it go down in New York.

“For me, the American fight is Deontay Wilder against Jarrell Miller,” Hearn said. “Run it in New York. That’s a serious fight. Deontay’s come back with a good win against [Derek] Chisora, I think that’s a big fight for American boxing.”

For sure, we fans would tune in if Miller, 28-1-2(22) and former WBC heavyweight champ Wilder, 45-4-1(43) did collide. But who wins if these two do get it on? Who has more left in the tank here? Miller started slow last night against Pero, but his punch output grew and grew. Might Miller outwork, outland, and out-punch Wilder in a fight later this year? Wilder did beat Chisora, but did the 40-year-old impress in doing so?

Miller has been calling for a fight with Wilder for some time, and he might just get what he wants sometime later in this year. Wilder believes he can become world champion again, and maybe a win over Miller – a KO win especially – would see to it that Wilder gets himself a shot at becoming a two-time champ.

If Wilder and Miller do fight, the pre-fight fun and games really could be quite something!
