Jaime Munguia Outpoints Armando Resendiz, Wins WBA Title

Wide decision over twelve rounds secures WBA super middleweight belt

Jaime Munguia (46-2, 35 KOs) outpointed Armando Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs) over twelve rounds to win the WBA super middleweight title. The judges scored it 120-108, 119-109 and 117-111 as Munguia pulled clear with cleaner punching and steady combinations.

Resendiz pressed from the opening bell while Munguia stayed patient, working his way into the fight, then began to dictate the distance once he found his rhythm. He used his feet to keep distance, then set his shots and fired combinations that caught Resendiz as he came forward.

Through the middle rounds Munguia mixed straight shots with hooks, worked the body, and kept his hands moving in combination. Resendiz had moments when he closed distance and let his hands go, but he couldn’t hold position long enough to build offense. Munguia’s punch selection and timing kept him a step ahead.

The final round brought a last push from both fighters. Munguia hurt Resendiz with a right hand, then Resendiz answered with his own right hands that forced Munguia back briefly. Munguia regained control, went back to combinations, and closed the fight strong as the bell ended the exchange.

“I felt excellent throughout the fight. I listened to my corner and that turned into great results for us,” said Munguia.

“Everything went exactly as we had it contemplated before the fight. I wanted to KO him, but everything was outstanding.”

Munguia also pointed to the closing moments. “I had Resendiz against the ropes. I was on the verge of knocking him down in that last round. We tried our best to knock him out, but it wasn’t meant to be and the win was ours.”

The decision gives Munguia the WBA belt at super middleweight, with his adjustments, footwork, and combination punching making the difference after Resendiz’s early pressure.
