The former heavyweight champion believes Joshua can win if Fury’s age begins to affect him in a proposed November fight
Frank Bruno believes Tyson Fury may be more vulnerable than in previous years if he eventually faces Anthony Joshua. The former heavyweight champion says age is becoming a factor for Fury and could help Joshua in a proposed November showdown.
Bruno, who challenged for the heavyweight title on multiple occasions during his own career, had previously backed Joshua to win if he entered the fight with the right mentality.
“It will be a good fight, I think that it is definitely going to go on, but I think that old age is catching up with Tyson Fury. Even his Dad says that, [about his] old age. I hope that he does very, very well,” said Bruno to iFL TV.
“He has got the survival skills you know, Tyson, but Joshua is a very good puncher – if he believes in himself. If he goes in there believing in himself, it is going to be a hard fight for Tyson.
“We need it, it is good for boxing.”
At 37, Fury is two years older than Joshua and has spent much of the last decade competing in high-profile contests, including three fights with Deontay Wilder and back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. Questions about how much those battles have taken out of him have become increasingly common in recent months.
Joshua, meanwhile, is attempting to rebuild momentum after suffering a stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois. The former two-time heavyweight champion has brought in Iegor Golub as part of his training setup ahead of the Prenga fight.
If both men emerge victorious from their respective tune-ups, Fury and Joshua are expected to finally meet in November in a long-awaited clash that has eluded British boxing fans for years. Bruno believes Joshua’s confidence could be the deciding factor, but he also sees Fury’s advancing age as a variable that cannot be ignored.
