Floyd Mayweather Sr has named Earnie Shavers as the hardest puncher he ever saw, putting him ahead of Mike Tyson and George Foreman. The call leans on Shavers’ knockout record and the damage he inflicted on Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes.

“Earnie Shavers!” Mayweather Sr said via TikTok when asked about the biggest puncher. When pressed on whether that included Mike Tyson, he doubled down: “Earnie Shavers!”

Mayweather Sr. has seen it all, from the technical brilliance of his son to the fiery exchanges of the 1970s. His choice isn’t Mike Tyson or George Foreman. It is the “Acorn,” Earnie Shavers.

The numbers alone are staggering. Shavers retired with a knockout ratio that looks more like a typo than a record, ending the night early for 70 of his 76 victims. However, the true testament to his power isn’t found in the wins, but in the testimony of the legends who survived him.

He hurt Muhammad Ali in the second round of their 1977 fight and dropped Larry Holmes in their 1979 bout.

While Shavers never draped a world title belt around his waist, he left a permanent impression on the men who did. His power was a physical force that shifted the momentum of entire careers.
