Fight confirmed as Spence returns from layoff with 154-pound title picture in play

Errol Spence Jr (28-1, 22 KOs) will face Tim Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) on July 25 in Australia after the fight was officially confirmed. The bout places both fighters directly into the 154-pound title picture with no interim contest.

The fight headlines a PBC Pay-Per-View on Prime Video in U.S. and PPV.com. It marks Spence’s first appearance since the 2023 loss to Terence Crawford and his first fight at 154 pounds.

“I’m grateful to be back,” said Spence. “Three years away from the sport changed my perspective completely. I’ve grown mentally and physically sharper, and I’m more disciplined and locked in with a deeper level of appreciation.”

Spence built his run at welterweight, winning titles against Kell Brook and later adding the WBA belt with a stoppage of Yordenis Ugas in 2022. He now steps into a new division without a tune-up fight and does it on the road.

“I chose to come back in his hometown for a reason. No tune-ups. No easy road,” Spence said. “On July 25th, I’m not aiming to make a return. I’m making a statement.”

Tszyu has stayed active through 2024 and 2025, rebuilding with wins over Denis Nurja and Anthony Velazquez after his two fights with Sebastian Fundora. Before that, he put together a strong run with victories over Tony Harrison, Brian Mendoza, and Carlos Ocampo to secure his place near the top of the division.

“They call him ‘The Truth’, the ‘Big Fish.’ I’ve always said I’m hunting the biggest fights and biggest names and now I’ve got one right in front of me,” Tszyu said.

The Australian has already fought in the United States and now brings the fight back to Sydney, where he has not been beaten. His recent activity stands in contrast to Spence’s time away, adding another layer to the matchup.

“I’m undefeated at home and he’s stepping into my backyard,” Tszyu said.

The July 25 bout places a former unified champion against an active contender with both fighters aiming to secure a title opportunity with a win.
