Agit Kabayel rules out Tyson Fury fight, calls him ‘brother’

WBC interim champion rules out Fury clash while staying in line for title shot

Agit Kabayel has ruled out a fight with Tyson Fury despite his current position in the heavyweight division. The WBC interim champion remains in line for a title shot against Oleksandr Usyk.

Kabayel has built momentum over the past two years with stoppage wins over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, Zhilei Zhang and Damian Knyba, extending his knockout run to six fights.

The unbeaten German also picked up and defended the WBC interim heavyweight title during that stretch, putting him in position for a shot at Oleksandr Usyk and the full WBC belt.

Finding opponents has not been simple. Lawrence Okolie had previously pushed for a fight, but his recent failed drug test has likely stalled those talks.

Kabayel made clear there is at least one name he will not consider. He shut down the idea of facing Fury due to their relationship.

“I am not interested in a fight with Fury; he is my brother. He has helped me so much in my career. When I fought with Makhmudov, he supported me, and I have no interest,” said Kabayel to Pro Boxing Fans.

At 37, he’s clearly in the legacy and bank-account-building phase of his career. Taking a fight with a dangerous, younger “brother” like Agit would be all risk for a significantly smaller payday than what he’d get for another go at Usyk or the long-awaited Battle of Britain with Joshua.

That being said, Fury’s tune-up against Arslanbek Makhmudov this past April definitely didn’t do much to silence the critics. While Tyson walked away with a unanimous decision, it wasn’t the vintage “Gypsy King” performance many were hoping for after his back-to-back losses to Usyk.

Kabayel and Fury share the same promotional ties and have sparred together in camp, building a close working relationship. Fury’s experience against Usyk could still play a role if Kabayel lands that title fight, but a meeting between the two appears off the table.
