Unbeaten super lightweight says Garcia is one of the major fights he wants as he closes in on title contention

Emiliano Vargas says he would welcome a future fight with Ryan Garcia as he continues climbing the rankings at super lightweight. The unbeaten prospect praised Garcia’s career path while making it clear he wants the biggest names available as he moves toward title contention.

“I would love to,” Emiliano said to AH when asked about facing Garcia. “Obviously, he’s a great champion. He’s a great fighter. For me, the biggest fights is all about visibility, right? So I want to be in the biggest fights possible.”

The comments came after the discussion about recent exchanges between the two fighters. Emiliano said the back-and-forth did not stem from a single incident and traced it back to the rivalry between their families.

“We started talking about each other once my brother fought his brother, and then since then, it’s kind of been little jabs here, little jabs there,” said Vargas.

Despite that history, Emiliano insisted he holds no animosity toward Ryan.

“I have no animosity. I have zero animosity. It’s the fight game. Talk to me, I’ll talk about you. That’s as simple as it is,” said Emiliano.

Vargas also compared his own career trajectory to Garcia’s rise through the sport. The 22-year-old noted that Garcia stepped up against Olympic silver medalist Luke Campbell while still a young fighter and said his own team is pursuing similar opportunities.

“He just became world champion at 27 years of age. He fought a Luke Campbell at my age, which was an Olympian. I’m wanting to fight former world champions. We’re trying to make things happen,” said Emiliano about Ryan.

Vargas is focused on his June 27 clash with Bryce Mills at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. However, he believes bigger opportunities are approaching quickly and expects to challenge for major honors in the near future.
