Eddie Hearn Expects Tyson Fury Tune-Up Fight Before Anthony Joshua Clash

Hearn says Fury will likely stay active with a low-key heavyweight fight before the proposed November showdown with Joshua

Eddie Hearn says he expects Tyson Fury to take a tune-up fight before facing Anthony Joshua later this year and doubts the former heavyweight champion will risk another dangerous opponent beforehand. Hearn believes Fury will stay active with a lower-level fight while preparing for the long-awaited British heavyweight showdown targeted for November.

“No, I mean it doesn’t we don’t have a problem with that. That’s down to Turki and to see where he wants to land,” said Hearn to Sky Sports Boxing.

“Might be difficult for Fury to go underneath Joshua on that card. I don’t know. So, we’ll see.

“But I don’t think he’s going to be having any kind of fight of any significance, even not the likes of Makhmudov. I don’t even think they’d ever fight at that level.

“They’ve got to do what they’ve got to do. They’ve just had 12 good rounds and we look forward to hopefully less rounds than that, but going through the gears and warming up for the big one.”

Asked if he had an opponent in mind for Fury, Hearn smiled before mentioning unbeaten heavyweight prospect Teremoana Teremoana.

“Teremoana, if he wants to try his luck against him,” Hearn joked.

Teremoana represented Australia at the 2024 Olympics and has quickly gained attention in the heavyweight division because of his size and knockout power.

Hearn also suggested Fury simply enjoys being in training camp and staying active while waiting for the Joshua fight to finally happen.

“I think if he fights, again, not my business, I don’t know, but if he fights, I think it’ll be a low-key fight to be honest with you. Just an opportunity to stay active.

“These guys, they love being in training camp. It really focuses the mind and Fury mentally loves to be in training camp, I believe.

“I think he looks at it and goes, ‘Well, we’re in May. I’m not going to go back to training camp till September. What am I going to do for the next three or four months? Get me in camp. Get me a fight.’”
