Dillian Whyte Pushes for Long-Delayed Wilder Fight

Whyte says Wilder avoided fight for years and wants it next following return bout

Dillian Whyte says Deontay Wilder avoided a fight with him and still wants to face him after Wilder’s win over Derek Chisora. Whyte renewed the callout as Wilder returned to the ring earlier this month.

Wilder, 40, returned earlier this month and beat Chisora by split decision after scoring two knockdowns. The performance was stronger than his losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, but it also showed a fighter well removed from his peak years.

Whyte’s future remains unclear, yet he says he would stay around for a long-discussed meeting with Wilder.

“I would love to fight Deontay Wilder; I’ve been trying to fight him for half of my career.

“The little b**ch has been running. So yeah, let’s see,” Whyte said to Impact Boxing.

Calling for Deontay Wilder after what Moses Itauma did to him is peak delusion. It has been eight months since that August 16, 2025, massacre in Riyadh, where a 20-year-old kid basically ended Whyte’s career as a top-tier heavyweight in just 119 seconds.

The millions Whyte has made as a gatekeeper is exactly why he feels he can still call the shots, but the leverage is gone. Wilder might be 40 and shopworn, but he just beat Derek Chisora and actually has some momentum. Whyte is coming off a first-round knockout loss.

Deontay is looking for legacy or mega-money fights to close out his career against Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Even a faded Wilder knows that beating Whyte right now does nothing for him.

Since Itauma already did the job in one round, Wilder can’t even claim he’s the one to finally break” Whyte. Also, Whyte isn’t even ranked in the top 15 of the major bodies anymore.

If Whyte wants to keep fighting, he needs to realize he is no longer a pay-per-view headliner against elite names. Aiming lower is his best option.

A rematch against Jermaine Franklin makes the most sense for a where are they now scrap. Franklin is also coming off a 5th-round TKO loss to Moses Itauma last month, so both guys are in the same boat of being the young lion’s lunch. Their first fight in 2022 was a majority decision for Whyte that many people thought Franklin won. A rematch is a natural story.

The “White Rhino” Dave Allen is basically the gatekeeper of the UK scene now. He is scheduled to face Filip Hrgovic on May 16, but if he survives that, a fight with Whyte would sell out a regional arena in the North of England on name recognition alone.
