Munguia wins wide decision, Duarte edges Fierro on full Las Vegas card

David Benavidez (32-0, 26 KOs) stopped Gilberto Ramirez (48-2) at 2:59 of the sixth round to win the WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles. He took control early with his jab and combinations and forced the stoppage as Ramirez could no longer respond.

Jaime Munguia picked up a wide decision over Armando “Toro” Resendiz to secure the WBA super middleweight title in the co-main event. Munguia (46-2, 35 KOs) set the tone with faster hands and consistent combination punching, breaking Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs) down as the rounds went on. Resendiz kept trying to press, but the gap in output showed as Munguia pulled clear on the cards.

Oscar Duarte took a split decision over Angel Fierro in a competitive super lightweight fight, with scores of 115-113 and 116-112 in his favor against a 116-112 card for Fierro. Duarte (31-2-1, 23 KOs) had the bigger moments, hurting Fierro (24-5-2, 18 KOs) with sharp flurries, including a post-bell knockdown in the fourth and a strong fifth round. Fierro kept pressing and landed enough to keep it close, forcing a tight scoreline. Duarte’s cleaner work over the middle rounds proved enough to get him the decision.

Jose “Tito” Sanchez closed strong to stop Jorge Chavez in the 10th round of their super bantamweight bout. Sanchez (16-0, 10 KOs) kept the pressure on and worked inside, while Chavez (15-1-1) had success in spots with speed and counters, including a solid ninth round. The finish came in the final round when Sanchez hurt Chavez and sent him down twice before ending it. Referee Alan Huggins halted the fight at 2:30 of the 10th.

Ismael Flores pulled off the upset over Isaac Lucero, taking a clear 10-round unanimous decision with scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 99-91 to open the pay-per-view. Flores (18-1-1, 12 KOs) set the tone early with cleaner power shots and sustained pressure, keeping Lucero (18-1, 14 KOs) on the defensive and shaking him more than once. The numbers and the eye test both favored Flores across the full ten rounds.

Raul Salomon couldn’t keep pace with Daniel Blancas, who cruised to a wide decision over ten rounds on scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 100-90. Blancas (15-0, 7 KOs) built a steady lead behind volume and combination work, while Salomon (16-4-1, 14 KOs) struggled to land with any consistency. The second half was one-way traffic as Blancas dictated the tempo.

Bernard Joseph had few answers for Petr Khamukov across ten rounds, with Khamukov (14-1, 6 KOs) earning a shutout-style unanimous decision on scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92. Khamukov controlled distance and output, keeping Joseph (12-4-1, 5 KOs) from gaining any real foothold. No knockdowns, but a clear separation in rounds.

Javier Meza made it count early, dropping Damonte Smith twice before stopping him in the fifth round of their six-round fight. Meza (6-0, 3 KOs) applied steady pressure and landed the heavier shots throughout, forcing the finish after Smith couldn’t recover. The stoppage handed Smith his first defeat.

James William Pierce stayed competitive, but Dylan Capetillo did enough across four rounds to secure a unanimous decision, all three cards reading 39-37. Capetillo (2-0, 1 KO) found his range as the fight went on and edged the cleaner exchanges. It went the distance with both fighters having moments.

Juan Carrillo ended things suddenly in the fourth round, knocking out Marlon Delgado after a two-punch sequence that left him unable to continue. Carrillo (15-0, 11 KOs) first hurt Delgado (8-1) with a right hand that put him down, then followed with a right uppercut to finish it. The stoppage came after Delgado rose but was clearly compromised.
