Chris Eubank Sr Says Son Is “Shot” After Conor Benn Rematch

Eubank Sr said his son looked physically finished during the rematch loss to Benn and warned he no longer wants to be connected to it

Chris Eubank Sr believes Chris Eubank Jr should retire following the second fight with Conor Benn after claiming his son looked physically finished during the rematch. The former world champion delivered the blunt assessment while discussing why he chose not to stand beside Eubank Jr during the rivalry.

“He is shot. If he was a horse, they would [put him down]. He is shot, he is spent. Now, the boxing authorities, the boxing experts, everyone can see it but no one is paying attention to it,” said Eubank Sr. to Playbook Boxing.

“And I want to be party to that? I’m going to stand [by his side]? No. I have got to stay alone.”

“I have given my life to this. I only can wish Junior luck and mercy.”

Eubank Jr won the first fight with Benn by unanimous decision after making a difficult weight cut and dealing with a rehydration clause. Their rematch seven months later went differently, with Benn winning comfortably as Eubank appeared badly affected physically during the bout.

Eubank Sr had already warned against the Benn rivalry before the first fight and was not present for the rematch.

The rivalry between the families had already carried years of history before the sons finally fought. Chris Eubank Sr defeated Nigel Benn twice during their rivalry in the 1990s, making the modern version one of British boxing’s biggest domestic events when Eubank Jr and Benn eventually agreed to fight.

Despite the criticism from his father, Eubank Jr has recently been linked to a possible fight in Australia against Michael Zerafa later this year. Zerafa has been linked to Eubank Jr several times in recent years.
