Bernie Tha Boxer Questions WBC Treatment Of David Benavidez

Bernie compared Benavidez’s multi-division situation to Shakur Stevenson’s past dispute involving sanctioning fees and title obligations

Bernie Tha Boxer questioned whether the WBC will apply the same rules to David Benavidez that it previously applied to Shakur Stevenson while discussing sanctioning fees and title obligations across multiple divisions. The comments came as Benavidez continues holding the WBC light heavyweight title while also competing above the division.

“Shakur Stevenson moved up, won the lineal championship, WBO championship at 140, the WBC tried to impede on his pocketbook and asked him for fees for something they wasn’t allowed into. They wasn’t even had nothing to do with,” Bernie said to MillCity Boxing.

“So I ask this question. Did the WBC do the same thing with David Benavidez? Did he have to pay a sanctioning fee even though the WBC was not involved in his newly acquired championships?”

Bernie continued questioning whether the sanctioning body would eventually force David Benavidez into making a decision about which division to stay in.

“Are they going to strip him of the WBC championship at light heavyweight? These are questions I want to know. These are questions that must be asked.”

“They got David Benavidez going up to heavyweight, they got David Benavidez going to cruiserweight, staying at light heavyweight. What is he going to do?”

Bernie also claimed the issue was largely ignored because of the excitement surrounding Benavidez’s recent activity.

“That kind of went past it, where nobody cared about that. They was too excited about the fight. But as I was sitting around thinking, I said, ‘Man, how this going to work?’” said Davis.

“If y’all gonna do, you got to do it to everybody. Something got to happen.”
