Andy Ruiz Jr Says He’d Be “Too Much” For Tyson Fury

Ruiz says Fury contacted him about a fight before returning instead against Arslanbek Makhmudov

Andy Ruiz Jr. believes Tyson Fury chose a safer comeback fight instead of facing him earlier this year. Ruiz said Fury contacted him about a possible fight before returning against Arslanbek Makhmudov in April.

“I’d love to fight him,” Ruiz said in an interview with Casino.org. “Tyson Fury actually messaged me asking what I thought about fighting him, but everybody was saying that’s too dangerous for him right now, so I’m pretty sure that’s why he picked Makhmudov.

“If I fought him, I think I’d be way too much.”

Fury returned in April after a long layoff and defeated Makhmudov by unanimous decision following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Ruiz has fought only once since 2023, battling Jarrell Miller to a draw in August 2024 in a fight many fans felt could have gone against him.

Still, Ruiz believes he becomes a completely different fighter when facing elite opponents. “I Come Out Like A Beast,” said Ruiz.

“People have to remember that they haven’t seen me when I fight really good people. I come out like a beast, especially when I’m in shape.”

Ruiz also named Fury when asked which active fighter he considers the most overrated in boxing.

“I’m gonna say Tyson Fury because they hype him up so much,” Ruiz said.

“Yes, he’s done a lot in the sport. But I feel like the only person that he really beat up that was good was Wilder.”

Fury is currently expected to face Anthony Joshua later this year, although he has also spoken about taking another fight beforehand.

Ruiz has stayed mostly inactive since his draw with Miller, while Fury is still pursuing major fights despite recent losses to Usyk. Questions also remain about how much motivation Fury still has at this stage of his career after years of heavyweight title fights and long layoffs between appearances.
