Agit Kabayel is reportedly headed for a heavyweight title defense before more than 50,000 fans in Düsseldorf. If Nelson Hysa is the opponent, filling the stadium may be harder than winning the fight.
Darshan Desai of Uncrowned reports that Kabayel and Hysa are set to meet November 28 at Merkur Spiel-Arena in a DAZN headliner. The fight has not been formally announced. Kabayel sold out a 12,000-seat arena for his January win over Damian Knyba, but this would ask far more people to buy tickets for a less familiar challenger.
Hysa is unbeaten in 25 fights, with 23 knockouts and 19 straight stoppages. Those numbers lose some force when you look at whom he has beaten. At 42, he has yet to defeat an established contender. Kabayel earned his standing with wins over dangerous heavyweights, but he received the full WBC title after Oleksandr Usyk vacated it. His first defense is a chance to make that title feel like his own. Hysa is a difficult opponent to sell as the man who can do that.
The date makes the comparison even sharper. On November 28, 2015, Tyson Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko at this same venue, then known as Esprit Arena. That was a stadium fight with the heavyweight championship and years of Klitschko dominance at stake. Kabayel’s promoters are returning to the building eleven years later with a champion who has never headlined a show this large and an opponent most German fans will need introduced to them.
Hysa could bring Albanian supporters to Düsseldorf on Albanian Independence Day. That may help the gate, but promoters need a much bigger crowd than the one Kabayel drew in January. They are asking fans to turn out for Kabayel himself.
He also has little room to impress in the ring. Stop Hysa early, and critics will point to the challenger’s record. Struggle with him, and talk of bigger fights in 2027 becomes harder. Kabayel deserves a home title defense. Whether this opponent can help him fill a stadium is another question.
