Azim keeps BBC headliner slot at Wembley as Claggett replaces Lemos following withdrawal

Adam Azim will face Steve Claggett on May 30 at OVO Arena Wembley after Gustavo Lemos withdrew from the scheduled fight. The change keeps Azim in the BBC headliner slot and maintains his route toward bigger fights at 140.

Azim (23) returns to the same venue where he beat Sergey Lipinets last year, a result that moved him into the European title picture at 140 pounds. The focus here stays simple. Keep activity. Keep visibility. Avoid a setback on a big platform.

Claggett steps in as a late replacement but brings recent world-level experience. He went 12 rounds with Teofimo in 2024 for the WBO title and has built a reputation as a durable opponent who keeps working even when outgunned. That profile makes him a safer substitution than a prospect-level fill-in, but still a fight Azim is expected to control.
Azim kept his message direct when discussing the change in opponent and the stage the fight will land on.

“This is another big step forward for me on my journey to a world title. I’m excited to be headlining live on the BBC in front of a massive audience. Steve Claggett is a tough, experienced fighter. He gave Teofimo his toughest fight, and that’s exactly the kind of challenge I want.”

Claggett treated it as a late opportunity, not a rebuild.

“I’ve spent my entire life working towards an opportunity like this. I know Adam is a good, young boxer, and I’ll be preparing for the best version of him.”

The change doesn’t alter the expectation around Azim. He is being positioned for bigger fights, and this slot on national TV keeps that plan moving. Claggett’s role is to test durability and discipline, not rewrite the path.
