Skoglund targets division’s top names as he moves down to super middleweight

Swedish light heavyweight Erik Skoglund (26-0, 12 KOs) is targeting the division’s top names as he makes the move down to super middleweight.

Skoglund is currently ranked with all the major governing bodies at 175lbs (IBF #4, WBO #5, WBC #10 and WBA #11), but frustrated by a lack of opportunities, and following talks with his promoter Nisse Sauerland, the 26 year-old has decided to drop down to 168lbs.

Skoglund expresses disappointment with EBU decision

Erik Skoglund has been left bitterly disappointed following the European Boxing Union’s (EBU) decision to reverse their ruling and allow current light heavyweight champion Robert Stieglitz a voluntary defence of his title.

The EBU had previously ordered Stieglitz to face his mandatory challenger Skoglund. The fight was set to go to purse bids after promoters Team Sauerland and SES Promotion couldn’t agree terms when suddenly the EBU announced that they had voted to allow Stieglitz a voluntary defence.

Skoglund appoints father as head coach: ‘’He will bring out my best

Erik Skoglund (25-0, 11 KOs) will have a familiar face in his corner on Friday, December 9 having appointed his father Johan as head coach prior to his WBA International Light Heavyweight title fight with Timy Shala (21-1-1, 8 KOs) at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping.

Skoglund had been working with veteran coach Tommy Antman since switching his training base from Berlin to Nyköping, but following Antman’s retirement earlier this year, the 25 year-old opted to look closer to home for a replacement

Erik Skoglund’s (25-0, 11 KOs) WBA International Light Heavyweight title fight with Timy Shala (21-1-1, 8 KOs) will now take place on December 9 at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping, Sweden.

Erik Skoglund (25-0, 11 KOs) returns to the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping on October 28 to take on the ‘Albanian Bomber’ Timy Shala (21-1-1, 8 KOs) in a twelve-round title fight.

The ‘Swedish Sensation’ is back in action following a bloody brawl with Ryno Liebenberg on April 23 at the Hovet in Stockholm, where despite suffering a bad cut above his right eye, Skoglund scored a unanimous points victory.

Skoglund and Lauren win title fights in Stockholm

Erik Skoglund continued his unbeaten streak with a heroic performance against Ryno Liebenberg to claim the IBO International Light Heavyweight title last night at the Hovet in Stockholm.

Liebenberg had said he would drag Skoglund into a ‘dog fight’ and that is exactly what happened after Skoglund received a nasty gash above his right eye following a clash of heads in the sixth-round.
