Martinez vs. Chavez Jr. Signed for September

By Vitali Shaposhnikov: While it’s not necessarily hard to say that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a pretty good fighter who is successfully slowly filling his father’s shoes, still his perfect record of (45-0-1) lacks serious competition.

On June 16, 2012 Chavez Jr. will face his biggest challenger yet in Andy Lee (28-1-0), who despite sharing the fact of lacking bigger names on his record is considered a dangerous fighter by many.

Both fighters are a year apart in age, and both have a lot to gain if they come out a winner. Having said that, it seems that Chavez Jr. has already secured the blockbuster fight of his career so far by signing to fight Sergio Gabriel Martinez (49-2-2) in September, 2012. Of course in order to make that fight a reality, a victory against Lee is a must.

Boxing fans have been eagerly waiting to see how Jr. does again bigger, stronger, and more experienced competition, and now, it may finally come true. All fighters have to be “put to the test,” and Martinez is that very ultimate test for Chavez Jr.

For Julio, a victory against Martinez would skyrocket his career to new highs, and open doors to bigger blockbuster fights. For Martinez, a loss would be devastating, and the criticisms will tear his name to pieces.

Having said all that, whilst I am very excited to see them fight, I truly don’t believe that Chavez Jr. is ready for Martinez just yet. I do think that Julio is a very good fighter with impressive technical skill and other remarkable attributes, and surely there is a big successful future for him in boxing, but I just don’t see what he could do in the ring against Sergio that would prevent Sergio from his executing his game plan.

Who do you think would come out a winner in that fight?
