Rodriguez vs, Wolak fight of the year; Edgar Sosa to fight on January 7th

Delvin RodriguezDecember 23, 2011….Bronx, NY 0 Sports Illustrated.com has named the Delvin Rodriguez-Pawel Wolak 1 its “Fight of the Year” in its annual Boxing Awards for 2011. The epic battle between these two warriors took place July 15th at The Roseland Ballroom in NYC, promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, and was broadcast live on ESPN2 as part of the popular “Friday Night Fights” series. The fight was an instant classic which ESPN quickly recognized by rebroadcasting it in its first ever unscheduled replay on the network. The fight was an unforgettable 10 round battle in front of an electrified, sold out audience as both fighters pummeled each other over the course of the entire contest.

When the dust settled the fight was scored a majority draw which ultimately led to the rematch on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito held on December 3rd at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. In the rematch, in front of more than 20,000 fans, Rodriguez put on a career best performance as he hammered Wolak in route to a dominating victory.

Results of NABF Championship Title Bout

In an extremely well fought fight, with two incredibly worthy opponents, Michael Medina (25-3, 19 KOs), Monterry, Mexico, defeated former champion Grady Brewer (28-14, 16 KOs), Lawton, Oklahoma, in a ten round decision, winning the NABF Junior Middleweight Title belt. Presented by catBOX Entertainment in Oklahoma City, OK at the Cox Convention Center, the bout was scored 92-99, 92-98, 92-99. catBOX president Bill Zuhdi said, “the beauty of the human spirit was shown in the ring tonight by Grady and Michael, two world class athletes, and showed what man can accomplish when seeking excellence.” Brewer demonstrated the heart of a champion as he skillfully delivered his blows, sending the crowd to their feet many times during the numerous heated exchanges, but at the end of the ten rounds, Medina took the win by unanimous decision. About Medina, the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Supervisor who traveled to Oklahoma to supervise the bout, Carlos De La Cruz, of Boulder Colorado, said, “Michael Medina will be a phenomenal fighter to watch in the future.”

Other fights on the card included a very exciting Light Heavyweight bout between catBOX fighter, and former National Golden Gloves Champ, Bo Gibbs, Jr. (5-0, 3 KOs) and Alfred Walker, (0-1) who was making his pro debut. Gibbs won by unanimous decision, the bout being scored at 40-35, 39-36, and 40-35. A fan favorite, Gibbs delivered his blows with precision and talent. Walker was a game opponent and the intense bout was enjoyed by the entire fight crowd.

Popular Heavyweight Ron “The Iceman” Aubrey (11-3, 11 KOs) was knocked out :51 seconds into the second round by Terrell Woods (2-1, 2 KOs), of Fort Worth, Texas. And in another exciting bout, welterweight Kyle Sherman (10-3-1, 6 KOs) lost by TKO 1:53 minutes into the third round.

IVAN COHEN RE-ITERATES THAT HE IS THE MANAGER OF HANK LUNDY

PHILADELPHIA (December 23, 2011)—Despite reports and rumors to contrary, Ivan Cohen is still the manager of Lightweight contender “Hammerin” Hank Lundy.

“I still have a valid contract with the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission through 2014 and if anybody tries to talk and or sign Hank, they will hear from my attorneys for torturous interference”

These statements come about after there have been rumors of Lundy signing with a different managers.

Edgar Sosa returns to the ring on 1/7

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion, Edgar Sosa (43-7, 26 Ko´s), announced today his return to the ring next January 7

at the “Foro Polanco” of Mexico City under the promotion of Ricardo Maldonado and RB Productions.

Sosa, who is the favorite of the Mexico City fans, will begin the 2012 defending his WBC International flyweight title against a rival to be announced during the next week.
