Serrano-Garcia on 8/25; Vazquez and Ferrante sign promotional deal; McCormack crowned world champion ; Cleverly takes new challenge

LOS ANGELES, August 1 – The two month wait is almost over as the true fight fan’s boxing series “Fight Night Club,” is back on Thursday, August 25, with an explosive card that will make L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia the only place to be for the best in local fistic action.

Headlining the card will be what promises to be an explosive a six-round bout between promising lightweights Hector Serrano of Huntington Park, Calif. and Juan Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif. Considering how stacked 135-pound weight class is, this bout is a must win for both fighters, but only one will emerge victorious.

In the co-main event, also scheduled for six rounds in the lightweight division, proud top East Los Angeles prospect Ramon Valadez returns to his home away from home to face an opponent to be named in his eighth Club Nokia appearance.

“Fight Night Club” is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and AEG and sponsored by Dewalt Tools, Budweiser, MetroPCS and Super A Foods. Hector “Teco” Serrano (13-2, 5 KO’s) started fast in his professional career, becoming a local favorite as he piled up victory after victory from 2006 to 2010. After a big technical knockout win over Angel Hernandez in June of 2010, the 26-year-old hit a rough patch with back-to-back defeats against Jose Reynoso and Aris Ambriz, but with his active schedule keeping him sharp, Serrano expects to put the past in the rearview mirror and emerge victorious on August 25.

25-year old Juan Garcia (14-3, 5 KO’s) tore out of the proverbial starting gate in 2004, beating opponent after opponent with relative ease. By early 2008, he was unbeaten in 14 fights, with wins over quality foes Julio Chavez, Jorge Pimentel and Gamalier Rodriguez, but a three-fight losing streak in 2008-09 slowed his progress and prompted him to go to the sidelines and regroup. Now, two years after his split decision loss to David Rodela in 2009, Garcia returns to Club Nokia with a renewed determination to reach the top.

Scrappy competitor Ramon Valadez (9-1, 5 KO’s) has bounced back from a loss in his second professional bout to reel off eight consecutive wins and earn recognition as one of Southern California’s top young prospects. Just 21 years old, Valadez has matured before the eyes of the Club Nokia faithful and with five wins already in 2011, he’s on pace to evolve his game even more before the end of the year.

In undercard action, Flint, Michigan’s Dion Savage (10-1, 6 KO’s) will step back into the ring for the first time since February, and the talented super middleweight is intent on making a statement in his six round bout against an opponent to be named.

In other action, Culiacan’s Roberto Rios (2-0, 2 KO’s) will see action in a four round junior lightweight bout and a pair of four round fights will pit Santa Ana junior lightweight Jose Sanchez (4-2, 1 KO) and Oxnard welterweight Ernesto Ocon (3-0, 2 KO’s) against opponents to be determined.

Now in its third season, “Fight Night Club” is Golden Boy Promotions’ and AEG’s critically acclaimed live monthly boxing series, that presents boxing in a night club atmosphere, with a DJ, music, great food and a VIP room, as well as a unique setup where the ring is on Club Nokia’s stage with standing room for fans in front of the ring, as well as reserved seating in the balcony. After the boxing action ends, fans are invited to stay to hear great music played by LA’s hottest DJ’s, dance and mingle with the fighters as the venue converts back into a night club. Athletes and celebrities have flocked to Club Nokia to take in the “Fight Night Club” action including, future Hall of Famer and GBP President Oscar de la Hoya, future Hall of Famer and GBP Partner Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, Hall of Famer Sugar Ray Leonard, current and former World Champions Amir “King” Khan, Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora, Daniel Ponce De Leon and Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi, plus sports and entertainment stars Will i Am, Ron Artest, Taboo, Mario Lopez, Audrina Patridge, Baby Bash, Aubrey O’Day, Tattoo and many more.
