Hernandez -Mireles on March 11th

Cuban heavyweight prospect Glendy Hernandez (5-0 with 2 KO) will face a tough test as he headlines the next edition of “Badia Spices Friday Night Fights” on Friday, March 11 at 8:30 PM at the Magic City Casino, located at NW 7 Street and 37th Avenue.

The six foot five, 240 pound giant from Guantanamo, who compiled a 230-20 amateur record that included two Cuban national titles, will face Francisco “Taz” Mireles (11-5 with 2 KO) a gutsy Mexican with more than three times his professional boxing experience.

Mireles, a twenty eight year old cruiserweight who has grown into the heavyweight division, has been fighting pro in California and in the violence ridden border cities of Chihuahua and Sonora. He has fought in ESPN and as an amateur was Mexican Golden Gloves champion. Mireles has won his last three pro fights and promises to fight his heart out in his Miami debut against Hernandez.

“Glendy is one of the top prospects in the heavyweight division,” stated promoter Ramiro Ortiz, “In his first fight with us we put him in with another undefeated fighter and they put up a very good fight which Glendy won by third round KO. The next fight we put him in with a fighter who had five knockouts in seven fights and Glendy won in the first round. The third fight was with a seasoned clubfighter with 19 pro fights and Glendy won every round. Now he faces a Mexican with three times his pro experience and good skills in what could be a very good, hard test for Hernandez.”

On the card. other featured fighters will include former Olympian Azea Augustama, undefeated Cuban knockout artist Yunieski Gonzalez, Puerto Rican Chris Velez and the debut of former amateur star Michael Santander.
