Casey vs Rigondeaux: Willie knows no fear

Ireland’s Cinderella Man, Willie ‘Big Bang’ Casey is a man who knows no fear. After only eleven fights into his pro career he remains undefeated and seemingly unstoppable. Confidence is high in the Dolphil camp with team Casey plotting one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Head Coach Phil Sutcliffe shares the belief surrounding the camp “Of course we are confident in causing an upset, that’s why we took the fight, I believe Willie has the tools to beat Rigondeaux. We know all about Rigo, two Olympic Gold’s, two World Championships and now a World Title so he is the real deal. I still think Willie can do it, he’s one of the hardest hitters in the world at his weight, its going to be a fantastic fight.”

Rigondeaux returns to his training camp next week to prepare for his first defence since defeating Ricardo Cordoba. The self-described ‘greatest boxer in history’ who before turning pro was the most decorated amateur of his generation. Freddie Roach recently suggested that Rigondeaux would take Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez if the fights came his way but the Cuban standout could also be another scalp on the growing list of shock victories on Casey’s record.

People certainly took note when the Limerick southpaw won the Prizefighter tournament earlier in the year, when he lifted the European Title he silenced a lot of his critics and now Dolphil Promotions are urging the country to believe in Willie and get behind him 100% for the fight.

“We hope the country gets behind Willie, We know demand will be high for this but at the same time we know that these are tough times so we have decided to keep the tickets the same price as Collins V Eubank back in 1995.” Said Daniel Halpin of Dolphil Promotions.
