2nd Annual Kronk Gym Foundation Fundraiser!

On Wednesday, June 30, The Kronk Gym Foundation will hold their 2nd Annual Fundraiser. And be joined by Jr. Middle Weight Champion Miguel Cotto, Philip Anselmo formerly of Pantera and Detroit’s own Aretha Franklin. The event will include Dinner, Awards, Amateur Boxing, Live and Silent Auctions, all for a good cause. To celebrate its storied history and to raise money so it can help even more kids, the proceeds from this event will help continue to keep the gym open by contributing to the gym’s operational needs. The gym is located at 19239 West Warren Ave. Detroit, MI, an average of 40 youngsters train at the Kronk Gym daily..

Since it’s founding in 1969, the Kronk Gym has provided a recreational outlet for many youngsters in the metropolitan Detroit area. Through the coaching and guidance they received, some of these youths went on to become world-class athletes and world-class citizens.

In continuing this legacy, Emanuel Steward created the Kronk Gym Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to making a difference in the well-being of youth through character-building, education and recreation. The program’s goal is to provide recreational facilities, in addition to mentoring for the overall development of youth in Metro Detroit.

Emanuel Steward says, “For many youngsters who have unfortunate home lives, the Kronk Gym and its programs are crucial, there is a difference between a life on the streets and a life of accomplishment.”

The 2009 Kronk Amateur Boxing Team will be recognized, for they have won a total of 26 individual titles, 11 team titles and participated in 14 tournaments locally, regionally & nationally including Puerto Rico where they won “The Team Trophy”.
Expect something new and exciting this year, the fund-raiser will be a fun-filled event, with plenty of celebrities; the night will entail dinner, Boxing, plus live and silent auctions. This year we have added a $50 “Kronk Boxing Ticket Package” that will include: 2 tickets to the boxing show, dessert and snacks. Says Ruiz, Executive Director, Kronk Gym Foundation

Our Honorees have been chosen and they are friends of Kronk who have been giving generously of their time, and consistently been supporting the Kronk Boxing program and foundation among the recipients are Philip Anselmo of Down, Prentiss Byrd, Robbie Clemons, Marvin Goodwin, Patrick Delaney, Perry Mandera, Scott Muska, Harold Nelthrope, Odis Buffington, Rocky Terzano, Ted Wozniak, and Robert Young.
