Jason Cintron Talks On Khan, His Past, And Solid Future

Vivek Wallace: Hey Jason, how was camp for your fight coming up?

JC: Great! A lot of strength and conditioning. Been doing a lot of work on the speed bag and working on just maintaining fundamentals.

VW: Your opponent (Maurice Chalmers) isn’t quite world class, but he’s a good match to present a few challenges to help your evolution in the ring. What’s the plan? You going in to make short work or get in some good rounds to polish up on some execution?

JC: It all depends on what he tries to bring. I’m just gonna start out with my jab, using my skills. He’s been in the ring with guys like Berto, Kirkland, so he’s credible. I just want to measure up against him and get the win..

VW: I was talking to Shawn Porter last week and we were talking about the fact that some young fighters are carried along maybe too quickly. I think it’s far too early to say that in your case, but unfortunately, two fights ago you took a loss and I want to know what did that experience do for you and what changes can we look for moving forward as a result of that experience?

JC: It was a tough fight that i decided to take and I don’t regret it. I wanna fight and i wanna fight the good guys. What I learned from that fight is to keep to the fundamentals like my corner tells me. We worked on that last fight and we’ll do that this week too.

VW: When you look at the jr. welterweight division and see some of the guys – Bradley, Khan, and now Valero coming on strong – what are your thoughts of some of these top dogs in your neck of the woods?

JC: I think those guys are great. They have a lot of experience, a lot of amateur experience, so they’ve progressed well. I don’t have as much amateur experience but I’m progressing as well and i hope to one day share the ring with a few of them.

VW: When you look at that trio – obviously you have Marquez and Malignaggi out there too – but who would you consider to be the top dawg of the trio in that division?

JC: Well, the one that I think is an awesome fighter, he’s tough, he’s skilled and he knows how to fight…that guy to me is Amir Khan. I think he’s an amazing talent.

VW: After Friday night, what’s next? Any direction or name in particular you see next?

JC: There’s a date scheduled at the Sovereign Center in Pennsylvania on May 29th. The opponent isn’t quite decided yet but I plan to be ready.

VW: Any parting thoughts before you enter the ring Friday night?

JC: I just want the people out there to know that I’m a great fighter and I come to fight. I just hope to continue to entertain and I hope to see you all out there.
