Donovan George KOs Phil Williams

Donovan GeorgeBy Matthew Paras – Donovan George (19-0, 17 KOs) extended his winning streak to eighteen Friday night with a dominant third round knockout over Phil Williams (11-3, 10 KOs). George entered the bout fresh off a knockout victory of Jason Naugler, while Williams in his last fight lost a split decision to Matt Vanda.

The fight started with George establishing his jab, which backed Williams up. Williams was tentative in throwing, which George took full advantage of. George stunned Williams towards the end of round one with a right hand.

Donovan George took the next two rounds controlling the fight with his 1-2 combinations and body punches that had Williams covering up. Whenever Williams would try to counter, George showed an improved defense. Before George would have a tendency of just taking shots on the chin, but tonight he had a tight peek a boo guard and his reflexes seemed better.

With George’s offensive onslaught and increased defense, Phil Williams had no answer for anything George did. It was only a matter of time before Donovan George caught him with a big right hand that would send him down. That time would happen to be around the two minute mark as George caught Williams flush with a straight right hand that sent him reeling to the ropes. George jumped all over him, overwhelming with a series of punches. Williams went down and did not get up..

After tonight’s victory, Donovan George passed what seemed to be a test going into the fight with relative ease. His aggressive style with his high punching power makes him a Chicago crowd favorite. What is more important is that George proved he is a legitimate prospect and a name to look out for in the future. Time was 2:43.
